Abstract: New technologies such as quantum computers and associated networks can be used to solve certain computational problems more efficiently and to make communication between participants more secure. Superconducting qubits have established themselves as a promising platform in the field of computing, while vacancy centers with elements from the fourth main group are the focus of current research for building a quantum internet in the context of communication and distributed quantum computing. In this work, we show characterization and optimal control of elementary building blocks of such quantum systems. After the introduction, the first section is dedicated to the characterization and simulation of vacancy centers with elements from the fourth main group, using a germanium vacancy center as an example. These are considered promising candidates for a quantum repeater. In the second part, we present new possibilities for the efficient optimization of the control of quantum systems. Here, we compare optimization methods in the context of non-Gaussian noise processes with regard to precision and computational effort. The goal is to better understand decoherence in quantum systems and to effectively combat its causes. In the final part, an experiment with a superconducting qubit is simulated and characterized. Existing methods for parity detection are compared with the demonstration of a new method.
